2025 Skoda Kylaq Starts Production in India
The wait is over! The 2025 Skoda Kylaq has officially entered mass production at Volkswagen Group's Pune assembly plant in India. This new Skoda model, designed specifically for the Indian market, shares its platform with the Kushaq and Slavia.
Expanded Production Capacity
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has boosted the plant's production capacity by 30%, bringing the annual output to 255,000 vehicles. This increase reflects the strong market demand for the Kylaq, Skoda's first sub-4-meter crossover.
The Kylaq competes with popular models like the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. Notably, all these crossovers measure close to 3,995 millimeters (157.2 inches) in length.
Engine and Transmission Options
The Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 114 horsepower and 131 lb-ft (178 Nm) of torque. Buyers can opt for a standard manual transmission or an optional torque-converter automatic.
The manual version offers brisk performance, accelerating to 100 kph (62 mph) in 10.5 seconds.
Pricing and Trim Levels
Prices start at ₹789,000 ($9,295) ex-showroom, including features like 16-inch steel wheels with covers, LED headlights, daytime running lights, taillights, roof rails, and six airbags.
The Signature trim adds upgrades such as 16-inch alloy wheels, glovebox cooling, rear defogger, touchscreen infotainment, tire pressure monitoring, and cruise control. The top-tier Prestige trim enhances comfort with electric and ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and LED fog lamps with a static cornering function.
The Prestige trim costs ₹1,335,000 ($15,725) ex-showroom. For context, the Kia Soul starts at $20,290 in the US, and the similarly sized Kia Sonet is priced around ₹799,900 ($9,425) in India.
