2026 Skoda Space: First Look at New Electric Family SUV Testing at Nürburgring

Skoda's yet-unnamed electric family SUV, codenamed Space, has been spotted in dynamic testing at the Nürburgring. Built on the Enyaq's platform, this upcoming seven-seat model promises to be the Czech automaker's largest electric passenger vehicle to date.

    Testing Challenges and Quick Recovery

During testing, the camouflaged prototype encountered a brief malfunction but quickly restarted after a reset. This highlights the rigorous development process required to refine new electric vehicle technologies.

The Space rides on 20-inch Continental tires sized 265/45, and notably features rear drum brakes rather than discs. This choice likely balances cost efficiency with performance since rear brakes typically handle less demand, while drums offer lower rolling resistance and greater longevity.

    Design, Specs, and Features

Measuring nearly 4.9 meters (about 193 inches) long, the three-row Space aims to compete directly with models like the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. It is expected to offer both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations to suit different driving preferences.

Inside, Skoda is rumored to include a rectangular two-spoke steering wheel, an integrated child seat in the center of the second row, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring tech similar to that in the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe.

Due to its larger size and weight, the Space may have a slightly shorter driving range compared to the Enyaq. Currently, the longest-range Enyaq in Czechia—the rear-wheel-drive Selection 85—offers up to 581 kilometers (361 miles) from its 77-kWh battery.

There’s also a possibility of a sportier variant, akin to the Enyaq RS, delivering up to 335 horsepower (340 PS) for enhanced performance.
