Skoda 110 R Coupe Returns as a Bold Electric Concept — But Won’t Reach Production

Skoda revives the classic 1970s 110 R Coupe with a futuristic electric concept inspired by racing—though it won’t be produced for the road.

Skoda 110 R Coupe Briefly Lives Again as an Electric Concept That Will Never Be Made

Czech automaker Skoda has unveiled a striking remake of the 1970s 110 R Coupe, reimagined as a cutting-edge electric car inspired by motorsport heritage.

A Blast from the Past: The Original 110 R Coupe

If you’re not deeply into European motorsport or historic cars, the 110 R Coupe might be unfamiliar. Yet this classic model has inspired one of Skoda’s most thrilling digital concept reveals this year.

Launched in 1970 as a coupe version of the 110 sedan, the 110 R featured a rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive layout, quickly becoming a favorite in Europe, particularly in the UK.

A New Era: The Electric Concept

Skoda’s digital concept reinterprets the 110 R Coupe from the ground up, bypassing retro styling in favor of the brand’s current "Modern Solid" design language.

The futuristic concept sports a clean front fascia without a traditional radiator grille, sleek aerodynamic bodywork including low-drag cameras instead of side mirrors, and concealed headlights that emerge only when needed.

    Powering the Future

While details remain undisclosed, the electric drivetrain powers the rear wheels, echoing the original rear-drive setup. Design cues like flared wheel arches and ribbed hood embossing pay homage to the later 130 RS, a celebrated successor.

Side air intakes mirror those on the classic 110 R but serve to cool the battery pack in this concept. The nose sports a black panel envisioned to house sensor technology for advanced driver assistance.

    No Production Plans

As with previous Skoda heritage concepts, there are no plans to bring the electric 110 R Coupe to production. Though disappointing, this visionary concept highlights the brand’s design and electric mobility ambitions.
