Skoda L&K 130: Innovative Pickup Truck Bicycle Rack Concept for the 2025 Tour de France
Inspired by a collaboration of 28 students from the Skoda Auto Vocational School, the Skoda L&K 130 is a creative transformation of a plug-in hybrid Superb Combi into a pickup truck style bicycle rack. Designed to support cycling teams, this custom vehicle can carry three competition bikes during races.
Honoring Skoda's Roots and Racing Legacy
The L&K 130 pays tribute to Skoda's founders, Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement, who began their journey crafting bicycles in the late 1800s. It also celebrates Skoda’s longstanding role as an official Tour de France sponsor for over 20 years.
The rear of the Superb Combi has been modified into a small truck bed featuring a partition and rear window. This section extends electrically for easy bike access and includes dedicated racks mounted on movable rails that tilt 35 degrees when the tailgate is closed.
Modifications to the rear doors allow them to swing outward on hinges and slide backward, secured by two locking mechanisms for enhanced safety and stability. To prevent accidents, the door-opening system was refined to protect passengers when doors open near moving bicycles.
The L&K 130 also showcases an illuminated front grille with customizable RGB LED lights that match the vehicle’s body color. The gold, red, white, and black accents echo the colors of the original Laurin & Klement logo.
Inside, the cabin features subtle upgrades like sport seats with integrated headrests and distinctive upholstery. Tech enhancements include internet connectivity, a radio transmitter, and a dashboard display offering real-time data monitoring visible to the passenger.
The Skoda L&K 130 will make its debut at the 2025 Tour de France, running from July 5 to July 27. The race begins in Lille Métropole and concludes on Paris’s iconic Champs-Elysees.
