Skoda prepares the Space, its roomy family EV, to compete with Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. Spied testing and all you need to know before its 2026 debut.
Skoda's Forthcoming Space Family-Sized EV Spied Playing in the Snow
Skoda is gearing up to launch its fourth MEB-based electric vehicle: the Space people carrier. Following the success of the all-new Elroq, the Space aims to compete with rivals like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. Recently, it has been spotted undergoing testing in freezing conditions.
Design and Features
This all-electric SUV measures about 4.9 meters long and offers three-row seating for up to seven passengers. Its exterior styling closely resembles the Skoda Vision 7S concept, though with some simplifications. Featuring Skoda's latest design language, the Space sports sleek swept-back headlights framing a gently rounded front fascia.
The vehicle also includes prominent air curtains alongside a large central air intake. From the side, flush door handles and two distinct wheel designs are visible, with only the front set expected in production models.
Production and Availability
Scheduled to arrive at dealerships in 2026, the Space will join Skoda's lineup alongside the Combi wagon and a Small crossover. Production will take place in the Czech Republic, most likely at Skoda’s main assembly plant in Mlada Boleslav.
While Skoda has yet to reveal details about battery options or electric motors, the Space will likely build on the proven Enyaq platform. The Mlada Boleslav factory currently produces the standard Enyaq and its coupe-like sibling, the Elroq.
Range and Performance
Due to its larger size, the Space may offer slightly less driving range than the standard Enyaq. However, its longer wheelbase could accommodate a bigger battery pack. Skoda might even introduce a larger battery option, similar to the 86-kWh pack found in the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S.
The ID.7 Pro S boasts an official range of 709 kilometers (440 miles), and under gentle driving, it can stretch to as much as 941 kilometers (585 miles) on a full charge. This gives an idea of the potential range the Space could deliver.
Cockpit and Infotainment
Inside, rumors indicate a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The second row may offer captain's chairs, similar to the setup available in the Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric minivan, which also shares the MEB platform with the Space.
