Skoda Superb Estate Preview: New Plug-In Hybrid with DC Charging and 201 HP

Discover the new Skoda Superb Estate featuring a 201 HP plug-in hybrid, DC fast charging, and over 62 miles of electric range for efficient, versatile driving.

Skoda Superb Estate Gets Detailed: Plug-In Hybrid Arrives with DC Charging and 201 HP

The updated Skoda Superb Estate now offers a plug-in hybrid variant delivering 201 horsepower. This isn't even the most powerful engine available, as a TSI petrol engine without electric assistance produces 261 horsepower.

Powerful Engine Choices and Extensive Electric Range

The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) impresses with an electric range exceeding 62 miles (100 kilometers), a strong figure in its segment. The latest generation Superb launched last year, showcasing both the liftback sedan and classic station wagon versions.

Built on the Volkswagen Group MQB Evo platform, shared with the estate-only Volkswagen Passat B9, the Superb Estate offers a comprehensive features package, including multiple engine options such as diesel variants—despite some controversy surrounding diesel powertrains.

With more space, enhanced comfort, improved efficiency, and upgraded safety, the Superb Estate also sports a more refined design and advanced aerodynamics. Skoda highlights new sustainable materials, the innovative Skoda Smart Dials, and an infotainment system integrated with an AI-powered ChatGPT chatbot.

The 2024 Superb Estate is larger yet nimble, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.25 and six engine choices, including two diesel options. It combines practicality and technology without compromise.

iV Plug-In Hybrid Offers Balanced Performance and Fast Charging

Our recommendation is the Superb Estate's iV plug-in hybrid. It pairs a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined 201 horsepower. The battery pack is rated at 25.7 kWh (gross), nearly double the previous generation’s capacity.

The updated PHEV system supports a maximum 11 kW AC charging rate and now accepts DC fast charging—ideal for long-distance travel with quicker top-ups. Though peak charging speed maxes out at 50 kW, it significantly reduces charging time.

Charging from 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes roughly 2.5 hours on AC power, while DC charging cuts that time to just 25 minutes. The gasoline engine’s fuel tank holds 45 liters, supporting extended driving beyond the electric range.

All engines come paired with DSG transmissions. The range-topping diesel and TSI engines come standard with all-wheel drive. Additionally, the Superb Estate introduces new nanosensor technology to enhance its advanced safety systems for greater accuracy and protection.
