Skoda Unveils Vision Gran Turismo Concept: An Electric Racer Inspired by Heritage

More than a decade ago, the Vision Gran Turismo program reshaped how cars are imagined and experienced in video games. While the designs are often striking, their names usually stick to a simple formula—and the newest concept from Skoda continues this trend.

A Concept Car That Embraces Tradition

The program’s first car debuted in late 2013 as the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, setting a pattern where automakers typically add “Vision Gran Turismo” to their brand without crafting unique names. Still, a few, like Italdesign with its Exeneo VGT and Genesis with the X Gran Turismo Berlinetta, have taken creative leaps with distinctive titles.

Skoda, known for its practical yet understated vehicles and also part of the VW Group alongside Audi, has now joined the Vision Gran Turismo roster. Their new concept, while not breaking the naming mold, brings fresh design and performance to the virtual track.

    A Fully Electric, High-Powered Racer

Designed exclusively for Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 and 5, Skoda's Vision Gran Turismo concept is a single-seater electric race car. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1957 Skoda 1100 OHC Spider and the brand's Modern Solid design language, this all-wheel-drive machine features four electric motors delivering a combined 800 kW (1,073 horsepower).

With a substantial torque of 1,020 Nm (752 lb-ft) and an 87 kWh battery pack, the car balances realistic performance specs with cutting-edge technology. The original 1100 OHC Spider was built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, giving this concept strong racing roots.

Highlights include a split rear wing, T-shaped headlights, and a distinctive matte Explorer Green finish—echoing the Skoda Vision 7S concept that defined the new design philosophy. For fans seeking nostalgia, an alternative paint option pays homage to the legendary Skoda 130 RS, victor of two classes at the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally.

The driver-focused cockpit features a virtually adjustable sports bucket seat with a six-point Red Orange harness, a sleek carbon fiber steering wheel, and a crystal stone power meter. Measuring 4.41 meters (173.6 inches) long, 1.95 meters (76.77 inches) wide, and just 94.9 centimeters (34.36 inches) tall, the lightweight 1,300-kilogram (2,866 pounds) design promises agility and speed.
