Volkswagen Group’s 2025 Vehicle Deliveries Slightly Dip to 8.98 Million Amid Market Challenges

Volkswagen Group delivered 8.98M vehicles in 2025, down 0.5%. Strong EV sales and growth in South America offset challenges in China and North America.

Volkswagen Group Delivers 8.98 Million Vehicles in 2025, Down 0.5% from 2024

In 2025, the Volkswagen Group reported delivering 8.98 million vehicles globally, marking a slight decrease of 0.5% compared to 2024.

Market Challenges in North America and China Weigh on Sales

The Group encountered hurdles in North America and China, two key markets where sales declined. In China, deliveries dropped to 2,693,800 vehicles from 2,928,100 the previous year. This was driven by intense local competition, a shrinking electric vehicle market share, and software limitations that left their models behind more advanced Chinese rivals.

In North America, tariffs and the end of electric vehicle subsidies contributed to lower sales. Additionally, a sharp decrease in battery-electric vehicle sales during the fourth quarter and an uncertain economic backdrop may affect 2026 performance.

Electric Vehicle Sales Show Solid Performance

Despite these challenges, Volkswagen maintained strong momentum in electric vehicles. The company delivered 983,100 fully electric vehicles and approximately 428,000 plug-in hybrids.

In Europe, Volkswagen sold a total of 3.94 million vehicles, with the compact T-Roc and the larger Tiguan leading growth segments. The Group holds about a 25% share of Europe’s electric vehicle market.

    Robust Growth in South America

South America recorded significant gains, with deliveries reaching 663,000 vehicles. The Tera commercial vehicle made a notable impact, attracting over 56,000 customers in its first year.

In the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China, deliveries rose 8.5% to approximately 320,400 vehicles in 2025.

New MEB+ Platform to Boost Battery-Electric Vehicle Sales

Looking ahead, Volkswagen plans to accelerate its battery-electric vehicle lineup with the new MEB+ platform. This front-biased architecture is expected to surpass current MEB sales in Europe by 2027.
